Camping My Money’s Worth
For at least the next year, starting December 2015, I’ll be camping at least once a month. After buying a new sleeping bag, tent, and backpack, I’m going to attempt to get my moneys worth over the next year. I’ve realized that being in Southern California puts me in close proximity (lets call that 8 hours in the car) to so many different natural wonders. For example, in less than four hours by car I can get to Joshua Tree National Park, Sequoia National Park, the Mount Whitney Zone, or Big Sur, to name a few. Within 8 hours of Los Angeles lies Lake Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes Basin, and National Parks such as Yosemite, Zion, and Grand Canyon. With all of these beautiful places just a car ride away, why not try to see them all?
My goal is to get out and pitch the tent at least once a month for the next year, no matter if it’s just for a night or an extended stay over a holiday weekend. The tranquillity of the wilderness is unmatched, especially within the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is Los Angeles. I’ll document some of the best experiences from each trip afterwards, with some pictures and videos where applicable. As the great John Muir once said, “The mountains are calling and I must go.”
